Educate Girls (www.educategirls.ngo) is a non-profit that focuses on mobilising communities for girls’ education in India’s rural and educationally backward areas.
Strongly aligned with the ‘Right to Education Act’ or the ‘Samagra Shiksha,’ Educate Girls is committed to the Government’s vision to improve access to primary education for children, especially young girls.
By leveraging the Government’s existing investment in schools and engaging with a huge base of community volunteers, Educate Girls helps identify, enrol, and retain out-of-school girls and improve foundational skills in literacy and numeracy for all children (both girls and boys). This helps deliver measurable results to a large number of children and avoids parallel service delivery.
Since 2007, in partnership with state governments, Educate Girls has mobilised over 1.8 million girls for school enrolment in over 29,000 villages of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.
Impact Since Inception
Koita Foundation has collaborated with Educate Girls to develop a Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping tool to enhance its mobilization and planning processes. This advanced system allows for improved identification of priority areas by visualizing the geographical layout and highlighting out-of-school girls and schools in a given region. The GIS tool enables more effective resource allocation, strategic planning, and targeted interventions, ensuring that efforts are concentrated where they are most needed to bridge the educational gap and promote gender equality in education.
